Mount Rigi railways
Dogs on Mt. Rigi
Now dogs can travel free of charge on the Queen of the Mountains. With the rules below the stay on the Queen of the Mountains will be perfect for everyone.
RULES FOR DOGS
Since I can travel on Mount Rigi free of charge and I want to get along with other guests, I follow these rules...
...I WALK ON A LEASH
Since the Queen of the Mountains is located across two cantons, leash rules are varied. In Schwyz Canton, leash is a compulsory for all year round. So I let myself always be led on a leash, when I walk on this side of Mount Rigi. In canton of Lucerne, I can enjoy the landscape without my leash – as far as the terrain is clear and I don't disturb anyone. However, Dogs in canton of Lucerne must be led on a leash in the forest and at the edge of the forest from April 1 to the end of July.
Canton of Schwyz: Rigi Kulm, Rigi Staffel, Rigi First, Rigi Klösterli, Fruttli, Kräbel, Rigi Scheidegg, Rigi Burggeist (whole route of the cog railroad line from Goldau)
Canton of Lucerne: Staffelhöhe, Känzeli, Rigi Kaltbad (cog railroad line from Vitznau to Staffelhöhe)
...MY FULL BAG GOES INTO THE TRASH
Free dog waste bags can be taken from the dispensers near each train station. My owner will throw my full bag into the trash.
...I LEAVE THE MOTHER COWS AND THEIR BABY COWS ALONE
For the safety of all involved, my owner and I will keep away from the mother cows. I know it is important for the cows and their baby cows to have their peace and quiet and it is difficult to assess their reaction when they feel threatened. I avoid confrontation and the unfenced cow pastures, particularly the mother cows with official markings.
