MY WINTER DAY AT MOUNT RIGI
Mount Rigi has so many different facets to it. Even true «Rigi-Insiders» will be surprised by the new surprises and exciting offers. Jeanine Züst, former Managing Director of RigiPlus AG takes you along on her personal winter fairy tale.
PERSONAL WINTER FAIRY TALE
Our perfect day on Mount Rigi starts early, because we want to enjoy the whole day. We start in Goldau and change to the cable car at Kräbel station. The Swiss General Abonnement (GA) is valid on both stretches and children travel for free when they are accompanied by an adult. Alternatively, one can drive by car to the Kräbel parking lot, however we recommend taking public transportation in the interest of the environment.
NEXT STOP RIGI SCHEIDEGG
Upon arrival at Rigi Scheidegg, we enjoy a stunning panorama of the Schwyzer basin. Rita Baggenstos' dog Sämi greets us excitedly— he's the best guard of Scheidegg that anybody could ask for! We start our hike along the Panorama Trail departing Scheidegg towards Rigi First. En route, we meet snowshoe hikers and others that are ski touring close to Dossen. Regardless of whether you would like to take it easy or get active, everyone finds their own slice of happiness on Mount Rigi.
CAB PLEASE
At the Gruebi Unterstetten, the horse-drawn carriage is whisks us away on the the final stretch to Rigi First. Once at Rigi First, we admire the majesty of Rigi Kulm. We are entranced by the summit.
LUNCH BREAK
From Rigi First, we hike further towards Rigi Staffel. At this stage, we have worked up quite an appetite and take the decision to have lunch at Restaurant Lok 7, which is well-known for its considerable selection of Cordon Bleus. I decide to have the Peach Weber Cordonbleu, which is a mushroom lover's dream-come-true. Stuffed after our meal, we undertake the final ascent to the summit via my favorite winter hiking tail «Staffel-Schinenfluh-Kulm».
The Panorama is truly breathtaking! We could quite happily sit on the bench for hours and enjoy the view, but alas the next highlight awaits!
AFTERNOON FUN
Once we arrive at Rigi Kulm, we rent sledges and bomb it back down to Rigi Staffel. From there, it isn't far to Staffelhöhe, where we will spend the night. The sunset and the view across the sea of clouds below is absolutely fantastic.
DINNER TIME
Now its time for us to get spoiled by Benedikt Voss and his kitchen team at the Kräuter Hotel Edelweiss. The multi-course surprise menu exceeds our expectations. What a perfect way to cap off our incredible day at Mount Rigi. Exhausted from the long day, we turn in for the night and dream about all of the fun we will have tomorrow.
ACTIVITES IN THE VALLEY
Back at our original starting point, Goldau, we decide to spend the day at the Nature Reserve and Wildlife Park Goldau.
